What: Book launch and illustrated talk for The Guide to the Mysterious Lake District. Come along and find out about mummified cats, screaming skulls, the ghosts that never were, dobbie stones, and phantom armies. Admission is free.

How much: Admission is free. Wine and nibbles are supplied.


Date and time: 7th and 8th August 2009. 18.45 (Friday) and 20.00 (Saturday).

Where: Tartan Heart Festival, Belladrum, near Inverness. In the Tweedledee Tent, Tir na Nog.

What: I'm delighted to be giving two talks on 'The Myth & Magic of Loch Ness' at this wonderful bijou festival.

How much: £80 for the weekend, including camping.



Date and time: Saturday 29th August 2009, 10.00am-6.00pm

Where: PaganCon, Glasgow University Students Union, University Avenue, Glasgow G12 8QQ.

What: PaganCon 2009 is the second annual convention for those in Scotland interested in wicca, magic, witchcraft, druidry, shamanism and other paths and expressions of paganism. There will be workshops, entertainment, stalls, and a full set of talks, including Geoff Holder on 'Holy Wells in Glasgow and Beyond'.

Holy Wells are among the most fascinating and wonderful of ancient places. When visiting one you are on a site where ritual practices have been carried out for centuries if not millennia. The history of Holy Wells touches on pre-Christian beliefs, Dark Age saints, witchcraft, post-Reformation persecution, folklore, miracles and magic - and contemporary ritual practices. This extensively illustrated hour-long talk will include examples from Glasgow, the Scottish Highlands, Loch Ness, Stirlingshire, Arran, Perthshire and the Lake District.
